How do I know if there is still space in a Group?
If you haven't yet handed in your application form, please check the status of the Group you are interested in joining on the "Groups" page. If it states either that the Group is "active, not currently accepting new members" or "active, full but can join waiting list" then that Group is already full. You can also check the status on the Beacon system by logging on and going to the "Bournemouth u3a Groups" page. It is advised to apply for more than 3 Groups, just in case one or more of your choices is already full.
Are Groups filled on a first-come-first-served basis?
No. In the past, this was the case. This year, the committee has decided to adopt a more random registration process to ensure greater equality. This avoids the same people always ending up on the waiting list.
What is included with my membership donation?
Not only can you join 3 Groups, but your membership entitles you to participate in Quizzes, monthly luncheons, Coffee mornings, Bowling and occasional lectures, all organised by our u3a members. After November, you can join other Groups as well (in addition to your 3), if there is still space. Furthermore, you can join short courses held at the Bournemouth International College as well as courses on Zoom and email.
Can I pay my membership donation by cash or by debit card?
Unfortunately, no. Payment can only be made by bank transfer (BACS) or by cheque. It is hoped that at some future date, payments will be able to made online. For clarification purposes, donation payments are non-refundable.
Do I get a membership card?
A membership card is not an absolute requirement. If you send in your application by mail together with a stamped addressed envelope, you will receive a physical membership card. If you send in your application online, you will receive a confirmation by email with a membership number, but you will NOT receive a physical card.
